Moly flippin' cow! First let me say this is the fastest I've ever read a book in this series. And it took me weeks...maybe months. But I devoured this! In my own way, I guess. I've read a lot of books a lot faster. But this one takes processing since there is just so much information/details/events. And honestly, there are still those characters that you have to either take a break to just digest what you've read (for those that are awesome), or to take a break to gear up for the not-so-awesome characters.
Without giving anything away, hopefully, I discovered when talking to the Fiance about this book that my two favorite characters this time were probably Samwell and Jamie. UM, WHAT? MARTIN, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE??!!! I couldn't stand either beforehand. Sam was okay but so damn boring in the last few books. But this time he became a total boss and I loved reading about him. He hasn't changed too much, he still stammers around and is a goofball really, but at least now I respect him for it. Haha.
And now he just became my favorite ever! |
Now this part of my review will make no sense unless you've already read this book, and I don't want to go and give anything away because I would have been super upset if someone had spoiled it for me, and I feel bad for everyone trying to read the series first, because when HBO gets to these parts of the book everyone will talk about it forever and ruin it for all the book readers...IN FACT, these parts were so monumental, that I had just finished reading it all when on a flight. My face must have been pale, and my eyes watering, since my mom was very concerned. When she asked me what was wrong as we were heading to baggage claim, I refuse to talk about it, not knowing if anyone nearby was reading the series too (you never know!). So, since my mom is awesome, she went around asking all the people walking near us if they were or ever planned on reading Game of Thrones so that I could speak freely. Haha. She's a hoot. But I think this perfectly illustrates how monumental these moments were...
1. There is a certain part that I had accidentally read a spoiler about and was super excited to get to in the book. And it was awesome and glorious even if it was awful and kind of gross and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Haha. And I'm not going to lie, I still don't know how it happened, well maybe just not who is responsible for it. I probably wasn't paying too much attention, but I guess it doesn't matter since the person held responsible didn't do it. That much I understood. But I didn't get to enjoy it as much since it happened after...
2. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! This part made me so mad. SO MAD. This was the part that had me almost in tears on my flight. UGH. MARTIN, YOU SUCK, EVEN IF I DO LOVE YOUR NOVELS...I just can't believe what happened. And it sucked so hardcore. I had been reading far enough into the novel that I was like "man, nothing tragic has happened yet, that seems odd for this series" and became super-paranoid. And dang it if I wasn't right. He more than made up for the delay. Jerkface. AND what's worse is that I had JUST bought a shirt to support the people that this awful thing had happened to. And now I have
yet to wear it since everytime I see it just get upset and think about the awful things. I don't know how I'm going to get over it...all the feels!!
3. Dany becomes a freakin' badass. But I hate what happens with Ser Jorah. Ugh. Sadness. I hope that it gets better later on, but I doubt it. Despite all this, I admit it was slow to build up in this novel. Everyone was all "3 is amazing! So much happens! woot!" and at the beginning, and even up to half-way I was like "you guys must be confused, this is kinda boring." But then BAM! it all picks up and everything is this wonderful mess. EVERYTHING.
Whew.
Yes. Yes, I will definitely be reading book four right away! (although I'm taking a tiny break to read something else and mourn you know what...and if you don't know what, then read the dang book!)
My parting gift for the weekend (props to my D&D group for sharing):
